Photo Gallery: 2010 Alice's Guys Beauty Pageant
A group of talented and beautiful "women" ... well, they were actually men dressed up as women ... participated in a beauty and talent show at the Winslow High School Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 10. Local men (and their labor) were auctioned off. All proceeds from ticket sales for the pageant and labor auction will go to support Alice's Place, a domestic violence shelter in Winslow. Photo Gallery: 2010 Winslow Easter Egg Hunt
On April 2, a children's egg hunt was held on the athletic fields south of the Winslow Indoor Pool. Hundreds of empty plastic eggs were spread out on the fields. A fire truck sounded the horn twice and the egg round up began. It lasted for about 15 minutes until all the eggs were collected. All photos by Todd Roth/NHO.

The following photo gallery contains images taken at the 2009 Narbona Pass Classic 5K and 10K runs. Nicholas Kipruto, the overall male individualist broke Pablo Vigil's long standing record of 34 minutes and 42 seconds for the 10K event with a time of 34 minutes and 7 seconds. Alvina Begay was the overall female titlist with a time of 44 minutes and 8 seconds in the arduous 10k course. 2009 LCRHA Award Winners
The following photo gallery is of the Little Colorado River Horsemanship Association (LCRHA) Annual Awards for 2007-2008. The LCRHA promotes horsemanship, safety, sportsmanship and encourages family participation, pride, self-confidence, education and a positive attitude toward horses and each other. The LCRHA meets on the third Saturday of each month at the Winslow Rodeo Grounds starting at around 10 a.m. The current LCRHA kids wish to dedicate this season to Juanita Aleene Branch (May 18, 1957 - Dec. 23, 2008). Her greatest love was kids, animals and the elders. She always had time for the kids at our monthly Gymkhana. She made it a point to have a saddle horse on the outfit at all times, just in case a kid wanted to ride. Juanita will truly be missed by our members. Not pictured are Vinni Begaye, 3rd High Point winner, 2-6 yr old; Krystal Johnson, 1st High Point winner, 18 and over; Amy Tso, fourth place, 15-18 yr old; Tia Kurley, fourth place, 11-14 yr old; Monty Smith, Hard Luck Award, 18 and over.

Yellowman has the distinction of serving on the Coconino County Board of Supervisors for an unprecedented 28 years - the longest of any county supervisor in Arizona state history. Photo Gallery: 2008 Mt. Elden Christmas visit to Infinia elders
Members of the Mt. Elden Middle School Native American Club and Native American language classes helped spread some holiday cheer on Dec. 22 when they visited the Infinia senior residence home in Flagstaff. The students visited with the elders, gave them small gifts and performed songs in Navajo. Photo Gallery: 2008 Red Rock Balloon Rally in Gallup, N.M.
The Red Rock Balloon Rally, held the first weekend in December in Gallup, N.M. is the second largest balloon rally in the world with approximately 200 balloons participating each year. Red Rock Park, with its massive, smooth sandstone bluffs and deep canyons is the perfect backdrop for the colorful nylon spectacle viewed by thousands of visitors each year since 1981. Photo Gallery: 2008 Denver Hopi-Navajo OSM protest
Concerned members of the Navajo and Hopi tribes united in force and traveled to Denver, Colo. Dec. 8 to meet and talk with officials from the Office of Surface Mining (OSM) regarding their intent to approve the "life of mine" permit to Peabody Coal which would allow them to continue coal mining operations at the Black Mesa Coal Mine. While the meeting was in progress, approximately 100 Navajos and Hopis stood outside in the cold Denver air to protest this latest action by OSM. The Shiprock Chieftains, led by Clifford Johns met Steve Scott and the Bloomfield Bobcats in the title game of the 2008 Webb-Toyota Basin Tournament. The Bobcats were victorious with a final score of 58 to 46 over the Chieftains. On Monday, Dec. 1, Hopi and Tewa community members gathered in front of the Hopi Tribal complex as early as 7:30 a.m. to be afforded the opportunity go into the Hopi Tribal Chambers and witness proceedings of the last quarter council session of the year. The biggest reason for the Hopis and Tewas present was that they wanted to see the Hopi Council act on five specific but separate action items.

Runners participate in the final 'Just Move It' event held July 30 in Tsaile. Over 300 particpants - young and old, small and big, tall and round - took part. The event continued into the evening hours with line dancing, volleyball, kick-boxing, basketball, and socializing. Tsaile Public Health officials offered diabetic screening, cholesterol checks, and dietitians were there to give nutritional advice.

Photo gallery: Flagstaff Fourth of July Parade
The 12th Annual Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July parade (sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company) made its way through historic downtown Flagstaff on Friday, July 4. More than 100 entries including community groups and non-profit associations participated. Many of the parade participants showcased classic vehicles, music, and dancing in honor of our great nation's birthday. Despite the heat, this year's Fourth of July parade turned out to be one of the most spirited community events in Flagstaff. All photos by Wells Mahkee Jr./NHO.

Photo Gallery: 2008 MNA Hopi Festival
This year's Fourth of July weekend marked 75 years for the Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. What began in the 1930s as a weekend event has become the single oldest Hopi venue in the world focused on traditional Hopi values of humility, cooperation, respect, and continued earth stewardship.
