The Chinle Wildcats defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 88-74 in a basketball game played in Chinle Dec. 17. The loss left the Bulldogs with an 8-5 record for the season.

Winslow's next game will also be in Chinle against the Page Sand Devils in their first game of the Tournament of Champions Thursday.

The Wildcats had a huge first half establishing a 24-16 first quarter lead and a 53-41 advantage at the intermission. The Bulldogs cut into the deficit in the third quarter and trailed 66-60 going into the final period. Chinle increased its lead slightly in that frame. Much of Chinle's advantage came at the charity stripe where they made 22 of 29 attempts to only nine of 16 for the Bulldogs.

Stevin Nelson of Winslow and Wyatt Tuni of Chinle shared scoring honors, each scoring 27 points. Tuni had 12 two-point goals and three free throws. Nelson had six three-point goals, four two-point goals and one free throw.

Ty Francisco scored 21 points for Chinle and Kevin Yazzie was also in double figures for the Wildcats with 16 points. Nathaniel Long scored nine for the victors.

Trelonnie Sanders with 14 points and Trevor Begay with 10 points were also in double figures for Winslow and Keenan Keams tallied nine for the Bulldogs.
