Hopi 100-mile club hosts fun run/walk in Bacavi
BACAVI, Ariz. - On July 6 the Hopi Special Diabetes Program (HDSP) sponsored a fun run and walk in Bacavi amidst a sky full of clouds. It was a perfect day for the event. The HSDP sponsors the annual 100-mile club where participants attempt to walk or run 100 miles during a 16-week period in the summer.

Moenkopi Village sponsors 'Just Move It' event
UPPER MOENKOPI, Ariz. - Tuba City Health Promotions held their annual "Just Move It" event June 15 at the Upper Village of Moenkopi. According to Brooke Holliday, Health Promotions coordinator, there was an estimated crowd of about 500 participants. It was a great day to be out and get active.

Diné College archery duo excels at championships
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Diné College Archery Team members Georgia Sandoval and Duane Hanley competed at the 2010 US Collegiate Archery Association (USCAA) National Championships held here. Sandoval was named Ladies Recurve Best New Archer and Hanley All Academic at the conclusion of the event.

TEMPE, Ariz. - Tuba City High School distance runners Billy Orman and Ryan Yazzie helped the Tuba City Warriors score all of their team's 52 points for a fifth place finish at the 2010 Arizona 3A State Track and Field Championships held at Arizona State University.

Softball: Lady Bulldogs defeat Lady Roadrunners
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners and the River Valley Lady Dust Devils on May 7-8 in the first and second rounds of the Arizona State 3A Conference Softball Tournament. The win over Holbrook was 15-5 and the win over River Valley 9-4.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Wickenberg Wranglers 3-1 in the second round of the Arizona State 3A Conference Baseball Tournament at Surprise on May 8. The win set up a semi-final game with Chino Valley on May 14.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Parker Broncs 14-1 in the first round of the Arizona State 3A Conference Baseball Tournament at Surprise on May 7. The win set up a second round game with Wickenburg on May 8.

Track: Bulldogs beat Monument Valley
KAYENTA, Ariz. - The Winslow High School boys' track team won the regional meet on May 7 while the girls' team finished fourth. The Monument Valley girls won that meet with a score of 186 to 107.5 for second place Chinle, 74.5 for Tuba City, 69.5 for Winslow, 61.5 for Holbrook, 22 for Ganado and 9 for Window Rock.

78th Annual Invitational Track and Field Classic

Arizona's oldest track and field invitational took place April 30. Approximately 26 schools representing some of Arizona's best athletes in classes 2A-5A competed. Both boys and girls divisions were well represented.

Winslow Invite prepares student athletes
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Invitational track meet was an opportunity for boys' and girls' teams from a variety of conferences and regions to prepare for their regional and state meets in the weeks to come. From the results, it would appear that most of the 3A North Region teams will be hard pressed to fare well at the state level. The Winslow boys and Chinle girls were the best from the region but that was only tied for sixth for the Winslow boys with three 3A East Region teams better and 10th for the Chinle girls with four 3A East Region teams ahead of them.

Bulldogs beat Holbrook for 3A North Region title
WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners for the 3A North Region Championship in the regional tournament on Saturday. Winslow had defeated the Tuba City Warriors 13-1 in a semi-final game on Friday with Holbrook nipping Window Rock 4-2 that day to earn a berth in the finals.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs won four games and lost two at a softball tournament played in Las Vegas on April 1, 2 and 3. The team started the tournament with an easy 18-2 win over Canyon Springs Academy on Thursday and followed it with a 3-0 win over Bonanza and a 9-1 win over Rancho on Friday.

BLUE RIDGE and WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs split a pair of non-regional baseball games on Monday and Tuesday with an 11-4 loss to the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets at Blue Ridge on Monday and a 10-0 win over Show Low in Winslow on Tuesday. The results left Winslow with an 8-2 record for the season. The Bulldogs were to be at the Wolves Classic Tournament in Goodyear on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Lady Bulldogs edge Blue Ridge in 12 innings, defeat Lady Yellowjackets
BLUE RIDGE and WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs edged the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets 9-7 in an exciting 12 inning non-regional softball game played on Monday, then defeated the Show Low Lady Cougars 12-2 on Tuesday in Winslow. The wins improved Winslow's record to a perfect 9-0 for the season with the Las Vegas Tournament slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Hopi High beats Ganado
POLACCA, Ariz. - Hopi High recently beat Ganado, 7-4, in baseball action giving the Bruins hope for a good season. Hopi High Coach Ben Willey said beating the larger school gives the Bruins more powerpoints in the chase to get into the state playoffs and the satisfaction of knowing they beat a larger school.

Greyhills wrestler competes at 2010 Girls Wrestling National Championships
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The 2010 USAW Girls Wrestling National Championships were held at the Abe Lemons Arena on the Oklahoma City University campus where Greyhills student and 109-pound wrestler Francita Bitah competed for a shot at a national title. Bitah, a senior at Greyhills Academy High School from Tonalea, wrestled under Nashdoi (Wildcat) Wrestling Club at nationals.
