The 2013 spring session of the Northern Arizona Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) begins March 6.
The CPA is a multi-agency program designed to explain what local law enforcement agencies do on a daily basis, fostering a partnership of trust and shared responsibility between interested law abiding citizens and law enforcement.
This 10-week program sponsored by the Flagstaff Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff's Office,
Northern Arizona University
(NAU) Police Department, and the Arizona
Department of Public Safety
meets on Wednesday nights and two Saturdays. There are a total of 12 classes. Wednesday night classes take place from 6-9 p.m. at the Brent F. Cooper Auditorium at the Flagstaff Police Department at 911 E. Sawmill Road.
Participation in this program is free and open to all law abiding community members who are 18 years of age and older.
Officials from various law enforcement agencies will give tours of the Coconino County Detention Facility and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Crime Laboratory. They will also discuss the awareness, prevention, and enforcement of drug abuse, the awareness, prevention, and investigation of family crimes, and the highway drug interdiction program.
A police canine unit, the Coconino County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit, and the Arizona DPS Air Rescue Division will give demonstrations to all CPA participants. Other demonstrations include a hands-on live firearms demo at the range and an explosive devices demonstration.
More information and registration for the CPA program is available by calling Sgt. James Jackson of the Flagstaff Police Department at (928) 556-2300. Applications will not be accepted after March 6.
