WINSLOW, Ariz. - Three mobile homes burned to the ground June 7 following a fire. At approximately 6:30 a.m., the Winslow Fire Department (WFD) was dispatched to a structure fire at Sundown Mobile Home Park, 3001 W. Highway 66 in Winslow.
The WFD was assisted by the Winslow Police Department, Action Medical and several community members to combat the fire, which had spread from the originating mobile home. Within minutes of arrival, the originating home was fully engulfed with fire and smoke emanating dangerously extreme heat, which spread to two adjacent mobile homes.
Shortly after, additional resources were dispatched to assist including UniSource,
Arizona Department of Transportation
, APS, Navajo County Sheriff's Office, Tri-R Towing and the Joseph City Fire Department. Once the fire was under control, tractors were brought from UniSource and Steve Adams to safely contain and secure the scene pending the arrival of the Flagstaff Fire Investigative Unit (FFIU).
The FFIU's preliminary findings indicate the cause of the fire as accidental in nature with a full report of their findings forthcoming.
The WFD thanks the citizens of Winslow and all responding agencies for their assistance. Due to the devastating loss of property, the city of Winslow Emergency Response Plan was activated, which includes the Salvation Army to address the immediate needs of the families. In addition to the Salvation Army, the police and fire departments will be utilized as collection centers for those who wish to donate items to assist the families impacted by the incident.
